‘ Oh Look… Turtle is emoting!’
So myself and the rest of the Hostile Humor team have been away working on various projects all Summer. That means that when I get back I have all my favorite DVR’d shows to catch up on and Entourage is no exception. So I sat down one rainy Saturday and started watching with the intent to feel the urge to slit my own throat, but alas… nothing. Allow me to explain.
People think Entourage is about a Superstar Actor, His semi-washed up older brother, and his two boys who manage him and chauffeur him around respectively. And while this is true, the biggest thing Entourage is about is Escapism. It allows us normal guys to live in this fantasy world where you can seal multi-million dollar deals before lunch, get blow jobs from pop superstars and have an endless amount of “fall out pussy”.
Now this season was promoted as being more about the actual entourage rather than Vince, who survived a tumultuous rough patch last season and is now on easy street. While Vince served as a mere accessory to “The Boys”… bangin a few groupies every few episodes, The chosen storylines seemed lackluster at best.
I don’t watch Entourage to see E’s girl trouble, Drama’s work trouble and Ari’s employee problems… Sure turtle had a good season, but he was a perpetual loser so I felt like he was due anyway. NO.. I tune in to Entourage to escape my girl, work and employee problems respectively. The storyline seemed all over the place and I had no desire to swallow a bottle of Drano. I began to wonder… is Entourage losing it.
Then I finally got to the last 2 episodes. Not wanting to spoil anything for anyone who hasn’t seen them yet, the writers seemed like they were able to finally bring home, to an extent, all the floating plot points and the story line came together in a surprisingly nice fashion.
With a few guest appearances and a stand out cameo from Matt Damon, I finally felt that self resentment welling up inside of me again.
Entourage was closing what was an otherwise weak season on an extremely high note, while leaving some room for ideas to develop into next season. By the time the credits rolled and they ended with a classic Jay-Z song “In My Lifetime” Self hate was in FULL EFFECT and I felt the need to commit ritualistic Japanese suicide… I even had the sword ready. Thanks Entourage!

Yeah, I checked the final episode out yesterday. This is a good write up, though I gotta disagree with the whole season being a wash.
I think the show took a natural course, and there’s only so much of the Vincent Chase character I can stomach (for an actor playing one of the hottest actors in Hollywood he’s in desperate need of some acting lessons, but than again that’s probably why we don’t see Adrian Grenier in anything worth while outside of Entourage). Ari, E, Drama, Turtle are interesting characters on there own, though admittedly they are stronger as a team. I can co-sign on the writers’ decision to throw some light on Lloyd cause he needs to evolve beyond Ari’s gofer in order to keep him and his presence on the show relevant. So while I agree the season could have used a few more unabashed bare titty shots (they’re like Lay’s Potato Chips, too much is never enough), focusing on something other than Vinny “Wunderkind” Chase was a welcomed change of pace.
